15-year-old boy charged in connection with Swindon stabbing

A 15-year-old boy has been charged in connection with a stabbing in Swindon.

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, faces an allegation of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent following a knife attack outside the Link Centre on 29 October last year.

During the incident, the victim – also a teenage boy – sustained significant wounds to both wrists. Police officers had to apply a tourniquet to stem the flow of blood and save the boy’s life.

He was also stabbed in the abdomen – an injury considered less serious than the arm injuries, which required urgent care and plastic surgery in theatre at Bristol Children’s Hospital.

In April this year, a 14-year-old boy was jailed for his part in the Link Centre assault and another in Royal Wootton Bassett – he is currently serving three years and eight months behind bars.

The defendant is due to appear at Swindon Magistrates’ Court today (Tuesday). The public are not allowed to watch proceedings in youth courts, but journalists are permitted.
