11-year-old girl hit by car ‘fighting for her life’ in critical condition

POLICE AT THE SCENE ON MEADOWCROFT

An 11-year-old girl who was hit by a car on Friday remains in a critical condition, police say.

She was taken to Bristol Children’s Hospital, a major trauma centre, following the serious collision on Meadowcroft in Swindon at around 2pm.

Wiltshire Air Ambulance landed nearby as critical care medics were called in to treat the youngster who was knocked down the a white Mercedes C180 near the junction with Addison Crescent.

The schoolgirl was given CPR at the scene of the crash before being taken to hospital.

A family member told Wiltshire 999s this morning that she remains fighting for her life, and that it is not yet clear whether she will survive the ordeal.

On Sunday morning, Wiltshire Police confirmed that she remains in a critical condition in hospital.

Meadowcroft was closed for several hours while roads policing officers probed the crash site.

Despite reports from other news outlets, the incident was not a hit-and-run. The driver of the Mercedes remained at the scene and cooperated with police.

Any witnesses to the collision should call Wiltshire Police on 101.
